Title

Map of the State of Florida, Showing Progress of the Surveys

Description

Florida’s survey grid becomes the subject rather than simply the background of this map. Prepared to accompany the surveyor general’s 1857 report, it records township and range alongside forts, railroads, and major waters. It is an especially useful opening piece for a surveying collection: readers can consider how measured land, transportation, and military infrastructure were represented together on one statewide sheet.
