Complete 1838 Florida war map. George A. Smathers Libraries, University of Florida. Map of the seat of War in Florida (1838), UF00076066/00001.
Catalog notes
Compiled for the U.S. Secretary of War, this 1838 map places forts, routes, waterways and wetlands within a military view of the Florida peninsula. Its title credits reconnaissance by U.S. Army officers and compilation by Wash. Hood under Col. J. J. Abert. The contrast between surveyed routes and the extensive wetland landscape makes it a revealing record of nineteenth-century military knowledge of Florida.
