Catalog notes
Nagakubo Sekisui’s woodblock map presents Japan as a connected landscape of roads, settlements, coasts and pictorial mountains. Its diagonal orientation places north toward the upper right, while color helps distinguish areas within the archipelago. The complete sheet offers a compact counterpart to the later multi-sheet Inō surveys and preserves an important example of Japanese cartographic design and printed geographic knowledge.
