Catalog notes
Published with the investigation of the 1906 California earthquake, this map places San Francisco’s streets over ten geological units and identifies the original shoreline. Contours and spot heights come from Coast and Geodetic Survey topography. It makes an excellent bridge between surveying, urban development, and natural hazards: the familiar city surface sits on a less obvious physical foundation that matters when the ground moves.
