Catalog notes
The long title makes this map’s working methods unusually visible. Sketches made in 1804 were revised using triangulation, astronomical observations, and barometric measurements, with several contributors named. Cities, villages, haciendas, and observation points sit within the Valley of Mexico’s mountain setting. For LostSurveyor, the attraction is the chain from field observations to compiled map, as well as the reminder that a famous author’s atlas can depend on many other people’s work.
