Catalog notes
Instead of looking down on a landscape, this sheet looks across its height. Humboldt and Bonpland’s observations become an elevation profile in which plant names and geological information are arranged around the Andes. The image connects the distribution of living things with measurable terrain. This particular copy is uncolored, allowing the lettering and scientific tables to carry the design rather than the color familiar from other versions.
