Missouri to Oregon road map — Section 7 of 7
Caption
Section 7 of 7. Library of Congress, Parallel Histories: Spain, the United States, and the American Frontier.
Catalog notes
Seven map sections follow a route across the continent at a scale useful for examining its details. Compiled from Frémont’s field records and Preuss’s sketches, the sheets combine geography with observations about weather, elevation and the country encountered along the way. Their appeal lies in their practical character: this is not just a line announcing that someone traveled west, but a record of conditions along the road.
