Catalog notes
Seattle’s waterfront and spreading streets become a single landscape in this large panoramic map. Augustus Koch’s elevated viewpoint invites close exploration, with an index identifying important places. The image combines observation, draftsmanship and civic promotion, extending from Elliott Bay across the city toward its lakes and mountains. It illustrates how a growing nineteenth-century city could be presented as a coherent place from an imagined aerial vantage point.
