Catalog notes
Savannah’s planned urban form becomes especially readable in this view, where streets, open spaces and individual buildings are presented together. It provides an entry into the relationship between laying out a town and imagining how its community should function. Peter Gordon’s view depicts the settlement in March 1734, while the displayed Library of Congress item is cataloged as an 1876 reproduction. Its waterfront, numbered buildings and dedication preserve the visual language of the earlier image.
