Catalog notes
Separate routes for cavalry and four army corps turn this sheet into a record of movement rather than a single battle. Rivers, railways and towns show the geography through which Sherman’s forces traveled from Atlanta to Savannah and north through the Carolinas. Produced by the U.S. War Department’s engineers, it records the campaign from the army’s perspective. It offers a useful starting point for examining the relationship between military logistics, infrastructure and the wider wartime landscape.
